Virtual RealityThe BCLUW students and staff have reached a new platform of learning this fall. . . Virtual Reality! Students have been working with an open source software called Blender. It is a 3-D graphics and animation program. On Wednesday, October 27 students spent the day with two East Marshall students who helped train students in the program and how to use VREP, the new 3D computer system. BCLUW's Impact in IowaWith BCLUW High School beginning it's fourth year in a 1:1 program this fall, there comes much excitement. We are pleased to announce that the BCLUW Middle School will be joining in the initiative. The opportunity this program provides allows students to learn globally, think beyond the walls of a classroom and challenges them to learn more about themselves and their style of learning. Not to mention the opportunity to learn much needed 21st century skills. There has also been a tremendous amount of interest from schools across Iowa to learn how technology can be successfully integrated into the curriculum. Located above is a map of schools whom have spent time learning with the BCLUW High School staff and students during the last three years. We are happy to say that we were even visited this year by East Leyten High School of Chicago as well as a district in Wisconsin! A first for us this year was to host seventeen students from North Mahaska. They spent a portion of the day 'shadowing' BCLUW students to find out what it feels like to learn in a 1:1 environment. With just over 300 school districts in the state of Iowa, we have hosted nearly 15% of the schools in the state. That is a remarkable feat! We are honored to have been selected as an Apple Distinguished School this past year and are excited for the new opportunities that lie ahead! If you would like to hear more about our program, or would like to plan a visit, please contact the building principal, Cari Teske @ 641-366-2810 ext. 202 / cteske@bcluw.org |
Summertime - Leave the Slide on the Playground! The Iowa Department of Education has introduced a new initiative to try and support summertime reading and math, in order to prevent the “slide” in skills that sometimes occurs over the summer. There is both a reading component, “Find a Book Iowa”, and a math program, “Math + Summer = Progress”.
